Plans for a new £113m University of Glasgow research hub have been given the green light by the city council. Multiplex will now proceed with full-scale building work on the scheme, after beginning piling works on site earlier this month.

The 17,000m² research hub, designed by HOK Architects, will be the first building to be constructed on the 14-acre site of the former Western Infirmary, a teaching hospital in the city that closed down in 2015.

The first phase of one of Scotland’s biggest construction projects located on the banks of the River Clyde.

As part of the flagship headquarters for Barclays, works included the construction of Building 1, Building 2, as well as associated infrastructure works and public realm.

Building 1 consisted of a 115,000sqft seven-storey office development. The ground floor incorporates a gym, restaurant, assembly space and space for retail / commercial use. Additionally, the basement houses 44 car parking spaces, including three EV charging spaces.

Building 2 provides a 205,000sqft ten-storey office development, including 57 basement parking spaces, a mix of ancillary support, and amenity spaces at ground floor.

The £21M centre, located on the site of a former academy, will bring together four existing GP practices, district nurses, health visitors, dental and podiatry departments, and a number of out-patient clinics, alongside a community café.

Burrell Collection announces summer start to construction of £66m refurbishment

Plans for the refurbishment and redisplay of the Burrell Collection will see the museum’s public space increase by 83 per cent and gallery space increase by 35 per cent with store rooms on the lower ground floor open to the public for the first time. As well as improved facilities including café and retail opportunities, landscaped terraces will link the museum to its parkland setting, enhancing the visitor experience.

Located in a prime city centre location opposite Glasgow’s Central Station, the new YOTEL Glasgow will see the Westergate building on Argyle Street transformed into a 256-room hotel that will be equipped with YOTEL’s unique design and technology-driven hospitality offering. The hotel will also feature Glasgow’s first destination rooftop bar complete with bowling alley.

Construction of new accommodation for the existing St Andrews Special School with dedicated external teaching space.

Construction began in November 2017 with the project due for completion next summer ahead of the 2019/20 school term.

Built to cater for Perth’s growing population in its new Bertha Park residential development, the school will eventually accommodate around 1100 pupils, with 200 S1 and S2 pupils set to enrol from August 2019. Part of the Scottish Government’s Schools for the Future programme, it is unique as it is an entirely new school and not a replacement of an existing one.
